On a cool Sunday afternoon, am invited by a long term and mutual friend to show him a few tips about website building. This is what I like, people who have the passion to learn more each day.
I take a cab from the old taxi park to the University, thats a 10 minutes drive after about another 7 minutes of waiting before the cab is filled. We had an appointment and I promised to call him when I get to the University, with the new world of almost every Ugandan has more than one mobile SIM cards. This is no different from my good friend. I fail to locate him and am forced into another 25 minutes wait before my phone vibrates, its a text message asking me if i'm making it to the Univ. or not albeit from a totally different phone number which happens to he his other line... thats kool. After all I had managed to wait for all those minutes. It now starts raining thank God am just next to the CIT building and therefore won't face the cold rain-drops.
Entering into the 'computer lab' there is a welcoming noise of a server i guess... If you are not patient enough to get used to this, you may soon be on your way out... not too loud to cause an immediate headache though.
We sit on one of the computers am directed to which is described as the fastest.. Oh my goodness! In a blink of an eye we are exploring the files we intend to work with. Unfortunately this doesn't last long before it blacks out and can't start... am forced to try my quick troubleshooting techniques which don't apply in this computer lab! This workstation is beyond unplugging the cable and rebooting it. We are forced to another workstation perpendicular to the failing one. This shows good signs and..... oh my gassh! Same thing. It hungs and we are forced to warm-boot it. Which doesn't help anyway. Am talking of P4 Dell computers!
For heaven's sake there is something called computer servicing. I dont think at the CIT of Makerere this applies though, because this is what seems lacking to me! I have worked with computers for over 5 years and can expect such a thing.
Okay okay... the drama finally ends with a need for patience or rather 'post ponding' the intended discussion. Before i realise i find myself alone... I guess showing myself how to build sites... well i love sites thats true and blogging is my best. So why not do something in this rainy afternoon?! Huh?!
If you were in my shoes what would u do??! Of course post a blog!
I think need to find a cold Fanta, am getting a headache from this noisy thing. Is it called a server or something... well whatever its called!
Wait a minute.....
Oh my this is real drama... I cant imagine this. A smoking workstation from no where.... well well well. I need to pick my mobile phone and back-pack and head out of here before i experience more drama.
And for you who may not know wht am talking about, at the oldest and once the best University in East and Central Africa!
