Cranes to play final CAF tie against Benin on Saturday

UGANDA Cranes will play their last 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin on Saturday, October 11, a day earlier than planned.

Continental football governing body CAF has ordered that all Group Three matches be played at the same time to avoid a possible syndicate. Angola plays Niger on the same day.

Uganda and Angola are fighting to secure second place in the group which is the only ticket to advancing to the next stage of qualifiers.

Uganda (7 points) has an inferior goal-difference and can only advance if they beat Benin and Angola falter against Niger.

FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa told the PostBank FUFA weekly press conference in Mengo yesterday that a squad of nine professional players including goalkeeper Posnet Omwony and 20 home-based players will start training next week.

Cranes coach Robert Williamson, who went to Scotland to attend his father’s burial, returns on Saturday.
