Niger defiant, Cranes boosted

World Cup qualifier
October 12

Uganda v Benin
Angola v Niger

THE Uganda Cranes can draw some encouragement from Niger’s decision to send a full team to Angola but that is just one part of the equation. Apart from sending a full-strength side, the West Africans must be daring against the Angolans in Luanda — and have promised to be as much when the two sides face-off on October 12.

“Niger assured us while in Niamey that they would be sending the same full side to Angola. They are out but are determined to get something out of that game as well,” FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa stated.

Cranes, who host Benin on October 12, need to thump the Squirrels with a minimum of five goals and hope that Angola, already with a three-goal advantage, wins by less than two goals against Niger or in the best-case scenario fail to win, to guarantee qualification to the final stages of the World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, government has released sh30m for air-tickets of all the eight professional players FUFA has invited for the game.

South Africa based golakeeper Posnet Omwony and defender Timothy Batabaire jet in tomorrow. The rest of the players except Eugene Ssepuuya and Nestroy Kizito arrive Tuesday.
Cranes coach Robert Williamson jetted out yesterday for his father’s funeral and returns on Wednesday.
