Sam Ssimbwa has explained the sudden u-turn in accepting Uganda Cranes assistant job offered to him by Fufa earlier this week.
Ssimbwa was sacked as Lazslo Csaba’s assistant, along with Jackson Mayanja six month ago following Cranes elimination by Tanzania in African Nations Championship (CHAN). He was offered the position of coach of Under-23 side which he turned down at that time.He said he had a chat with Fufa boss Lawrence Mulindwa and gave him conditions for accepting the job.
“I demanded to be given appointment letter which states my role with the Cranes. I also asked for monthly salary. We settled for $600 per month,” Ssimbwa said.
Ssimbwa has steered army side Simba to the summit of the Super League, and in the process, shattered KCC FC’s four-month unbeaten run.
It is the third time for the Simba coach to be named as Cranes’ assistant. He was Mohammad Abbas’ understudy between 2004-06, before returning as Laszlo Csaba’s deputy last year.
Ssimbwa will replace Sam Timbe who stepped down after Cranes’ defeat in Niger to take up the coaching job of Rwanda side Atraco FC.
Ssimbwa has always been and is still a principled man.
Meanwhile, Cranes’ boss Bob Williamson who jetted in Wednesday, will fly back this weekend for the burial of his father Thomas Williamson (71), who lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday night.
“I will be on the bench against Benin. There is no danger. I am not here for the money but for the job and I want to work,” Williamson told the press after Cranes training.
However, the Scotsman was disappointed with local media who reported the death of his father yet he was still alive at time.
